Product Overview
The Phantom system is Minicom's cutting-edge CAT5 based KVM switching solution for server management in high-density rack and server
environments. It features multi-user control, mixed multi-platform support and comes in micro sized Specter unites or PCI cards. The Phantom Remote unites take up no rack space and offer a unique zero U solution for rack
environments. It features Minicom's unique distributed switching technology (DST).
The Universal Phantom Manager (UPM) is Minicom's new Management unit for the Phantom System. The UPM allows one user to access and control multiple servers and/or computers. It is the interface between the user's KVM station and the servers being accessed. The UPM connects, via single, standard CAT5 cable, to multiple Phantom Remote units (Specter or PCI) in a daisy chain formation. Each Remote unit is connected to a server or computer.
More Management Options
With the UPM there are more ways of managing the Phantom system
- Powerful and improved On Screen Display menu (OSD) including multi-layer security and individual user profiles
- Phantom RS-232 Control software (needs a computer or laptop to be connected to the UPM)
- Third party control device that operates the system through RS-232 protocol like Crestron or AMX (needs a computer or laptop to be connected to the UPM)
Mixed Multi-Platform Support
The UPM itself, when connected to a local computer, can connect to a PS/2 type computer only. However, the UPM as the Phantom line Manager has mixed multi-platform support capabilities allowing Phantom specter remote units to connect to different types of computers or platforms - PS/2, SUN, USB - all connected on the same line! The UPM also allows switching to RS0232 devices using Remote Specter II RS-232 units. The DB9 serial connection on the UPM allows connecting to either a terminal station or to a terminal emulation software application that runs on the Manager's computer.
General Compatibility
The UPM can be cascaded with all Minicom KVM switches and the new CAT5 Smart KVM Extender. This opens up the Phantom system to a wide range of powerful applications. To learn more please contact your local Minicom representative.
